## Summary

Convert bracelet measurements between centimeters and inches with a checked chart and worked examples, then tell wrist size from bracelet length, avoid rounding errors near a size line and read a maker’s S, M and L labels.

## Content

To convert a bracelet measurement from centimeters to inches, divide by 2.54; to convert inches to centimeters, multiply by 2.54. [NIST](https://www.nist.gov/pml/owm/si-units-length) defines one inch as exactly 2.54 cm. Converting changes the unit, not the fit. A wrist measuring 18 cm is about 7.09 inches around, but that doesn’t make a bracelet labeled “18 cm” the right one.

## Key facts

- One inch is exactly 25.4 mm, or 2.54 cm, according to NIST.
- 18.5 cm ÷ 2.54 = 7.28 inches, rounded to two decimal places.
- 8 inches × 2.54 = 20.32 cm exactly, so 20 cm and 8 inches differ by 3.2 mm.
- 7¼ inches × 2.54 = 18.415 cm, or 18.42 cm rounded to two decimal places.

Use the chart to convert, then check whether the seller’s number describes your wrist, the bracelet’s finished length or the space inside it. For help with the rest of the decision, browse our [size and fit guides](https://bracelet-buy.com/size/).

## Centimeters to inches: bracelet measurement chart

Every inch value below is calculated from the exact relationship **1 inch = 2.54 cm**, then rounded to the nearest 0.01 inch. [NIST’s explanation of length units](https://www.nist.gov/pml/owm/si-units-length) confirms the inch is exactly 25.4 mm, equivalent to 2.54 cm.

The 14–26 cm range just covers the numbers you’re likely to see when shopping. It says nothing about typical men’s wrists or which sizes any seller stocks. A conversion keeps the same kind of measurement: a wrist size stays a wrist size, and a bracelet length stays a bracelet length.

If your reading falls between rows, keep it as it is. An 18.3 cm measurement shouldn’t become 18.5 cm just because that’s the next row. Use 18.3 ÷ 2.54 to convert it, or compare the original 18.3 cm reading directly with the seller’s centimeter chart.

## Check what the number measures

The unit doesn’t tell you what a size label means. “20 cm” could be the bracelet’s length, the wrist it’s meant for or the distance around the inside. Read the chart heading and the measuring instructions before you compare numbers.

- **Wrist circumference:** the distance around your wrist at the position specified by the maker. A chart headed “wrist size” usually expects a body measurement. Follow its instructions on where to place the tape and how snug to pull it, and don’t add extra room unless it tells you to.
- **Finished bracelet length:** a measurement of the bracelet itself. Check whether it includes the clasp and any extender. A length measured flat, end to end, isn’t the same as the room inside once it’s fastened.
- **Inner circumference:** the distance around the inside of the closed bracelet. This tells you the space inside, though the shape and how much movement you like still affect the fit.
- **Inner diameter:** a distance across the inside of a bangle, not around it. Converting a 6 cm diameter to inches still gives you a diameter, not a wrist size. For a perfect circle, the circumference is π times the diameter, but that doesn’t work for an oval measured across one width, or for an open cuff with a gap.

Thickness matters because the inner surface sits closer to your wrist than the bracelet’s centerline or outer surface. An overlapping clasp also makes the closed loop smaller than the flat length. So not every 20 cm bracelet gives you 20 cm of room inside. Our guide to [bracelet length versus wrist circumference](https://bracelet-buy.com/bracelet-length-vs-wrist-circumference-why-they-differ/) explains that distinction in more detail.

For a rigid bangle that slips over the hand, also check the maker’s hand-sizing instructions. Your wrist size alone won’t tell you whether it will go over your hand. A hinged bangle and a slip-on bangle may need different checks, even if both listings use centimeters.

## Three worked conversions

### A centimeter wrist reading: 18.5 cm

Divide 18.5 by 2.54: **18.5 ÷ 2.54 = 7.283464… inches**, or 7.28 inches rounded to two decimal places. If a seller asks for wrist circumference, compare that wrist reading with its wrist chart. If it lists bracelet lengths instead, you still need its fit instructions, because converting doesn’t add any room.

### An inch product label: 8 inches

Multiply 8 by 2.54: **8 × 2.54 = 20.32 cm exactly**. If “8 inches” means finished bracelet length, its equivalent is 20.32 cm of finished length. That doesn’t mean it fits a 20.32 cm wrist. Also, 20 cm and 8 inches are not identical: their difference is 0.32 cm, or 3.2 mm.

### A fractional inch reading: 7¼ inches

First write the fraction as a decimal: 7¼ = 7.25. Then **7.25 × 2.54 = 18.415 cm**, or 18.42 cm rounded to two decimal places. Keep “7¼ inches” in your notes alongside the conversion. If you’re close to the edge of a size, the original reading is more useful than a rough “about 18.5 cm.”

## S, M and L are chart labels, not units

You can convert centimeters to inches for any bracelet. You can’t convert “medium” into one universal number. A letter belongs to one maker’s size system, so you need the chart for that product or collection.

Say one chart uses M for a 16–17.5 cm wrist and another uses M for 18–19.5 cm. Converting units won’t make those ranges match; you need the right chart for the bracelet you’re buying.

Use the letter only after matching the measurement:

1. Open the size guide linked from the exact product listing. Check whether it applies to that design, to a collection or to a men’s or women’s range.
2. Check which measurement the chart asks for. A Medium based on wrist circumference cannot be compared directly with another shop’s Medium based on finished length.
3. Match your original reading in the chart’s units where possible. Only convert when you have to, and keep enough decimal places to see which side of a size line you fall on.
4. Read what the maker says about in-between sizes and fit. If ranges overlap or the product page disagrees with a general chart, ask the seller which instruction applies to that item.

XS, XL and “one size” need numbers behind them too. A label is handy shorthand once you’ve checked its range, not before. Knowing you wore a Large in one bracelet is a hint, not a measurement for your next order.

## Keep rounding separate from choosing a size

A rounded conversion is just easier to read; it’s no reason to move up a size. Sellers may also round their centimeter and inch ranges differently. If you’re near the edge of a size, use the chart in the unit you measured in, and don’t keep converting rounded numbers back and forth.

For instance, if you measured 19.0 cm, stick with that figure even if the listing has an inch size line close by. Do not turn it into a whole number of inches and then convert that whole number back into centimeters. If the chart still leaves you unsure, send the seller your original measurement, the unit and which product you mean.

Picking between two sizes is a separate fit question. Follow the item’s instructions and think about how it’s made and how much movement you want. Our guide to [choosing between two bracelet sizes](https://bracelet-buy.com/between-two-sizes-which-one-to-take/) covers that next step. Keep the original measurement and its unit with your order notes, alongside the size selected from that product’s chart.
