## Content

Lay a navy bracelet beside pale gray and rust pieces to see a dark color, a lighter companion and an accent together. Thinking in three colors helps you plan a palette before you decide how many bracelets to wear. Your watch strap or sleeve may already supply one of the shades.

## Key facts

- Two bracelets can cover all three colors if one of them is multicolored. Several bracelets can also share just two colors.
- A watch strap, watch case, shirt cuff or bracelet clasp can supply one of the colors without adding another bracelet.
- “Neutral” here just means a color you want to keep in the background. A large white bracelet can be the most noticeable thing on a wrist.
- With a multicolored bracelet, borrow one of its colors, for example plain navy beside a navy, cream and orange woven piece.
- If the wrist feels busier than you wanted, remove the accent first, then try removing the lighter piece instead.

Count every color you can see at the wrist. The watch strap, watch face, shirt cuff and bracelet clasps all play a part.

## Build the palette before adding pieces

Lay your bracelets beside the sleeve you intend to wear. Add your watch if you wear one. Start with a dark color you like, such as black, navy, charcoal or deep brown. It can come from a bracelet, or it may already be there in your watch strap or cuff.

Next, add a quieter color beside it, such as gray, cream, sand or a silver-colored detail. This is your neutral, a color that stays in the background. Whether it does depends on the piece, not just the color name. A large white bracelet can easily be the most noticeable thing on a wrist.

Finally, choose an accent you would enjoy seeing: rust, red, green, bright blue or another shade. Start with a small amount if you are unsure, such as a thin cord or a few colored beads. You can make the accent more prominent later.

Two bracelets can cover all three colors if one of them is multicolored. And you don’t need three colors at all. Several bracelets in navy and gray make a perfectly good two-color stack. ## Four palettes to try with familiar outfits

Try these with pieces you own, and swap any shade you’d rather not wear.

| Outfit | Colors to try | How to put them together |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Navy knit with gray trousers | Navy, pale gray, rust | Try a navy bracelet with gray beads and a thin rust cord. If the sleeve supplies enough navy for your taste, use just the gray and rust pieces. |
| Black T-shirt with dark jeans | Black, silver color, red | Pair a black bracelet with [a red cord](https://bracelet-buy.com/red-bracelets-for-men-how-to-wear-a-strong-colour/). A silver-colored clasp or watch case can supply the third color without another bracelet. |
| Cream shirt with brown trousers | Deep brown, sand, olive | Try deep-brown cord or leather beside an olive bracelet. Let the cream sleeve provide the lighter part of the combination, or add sand if you prefer it. |
| Charcoal overshirt with a white T-shirt | Charcoal, light gray, clear blue | Place a blue bracelet beside a charcoal one. Use a gray watch strap as the quiet color, or try a small gray piece when wearing no watch. |

## Close shades or clear contrast?

Both work. Two navies side by side look calm together, even if the shades don’t match exactly. You can also try a run of related shades, such as deep blue, denim blue and pale blue, instead of choosing three different color families.

If two shades look awkward together to you, try a clearer difference. Replace one of two nearly matching browns with cream, or one of two dark blues with light gray. Then decide whether you prefer a close blend or an obvious break.

## When one bracelet is multicolored

Start with that bracelet and borrow from its existing palette. A navy, cream and orange woven piece could sit beside a plain navy bracelet, giving you three colors across two pieces.

If the bracelet has many colors, repeat one or two of them nearby, or let it be the only colorful thing on the wrist. Don’t count every bead, thread and tiny clasp as a separate color. What matters is which colors catch your eye.

## Finish by removing a color if you prefer

Put the combination on with your actual outfit. Check whether the watch, sleeve or any hardware adds a color you missed. A gold-colored watch case beside navy, gray and red gives you another visible color; keep it if you enjoy the result.

If the wrist feels busier than you wanted, take the accent off first. If that doesn’t help, put it back and remove the lighter piece instead. Browse the [bracelet style guides](https://bracelet-buy.com/style/) for other ways to combine your pieces.
