Father’s Day falls on the third Sunday in June in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada, which is June 20 in 2027. Australia and New Zealand mark it on the first Sunday in September, September 5 in 2027. Italy, Germany and Sweden have different dates again, shown below.
Key facts
- The United States, United Kingdom and Canada mark Father’s Day on the third Sunday in June: June 21 in 2026 and June 20 in 2027.
- Australia and New Zealand mark it on the first Sunday in September: September 6 in 2026 and September 5 in 2027.
- Italy’s calendar lists March 19 in both 2026 and 2027.
- Germany’s Father’s Day coincides with Ascension Day and moves with Easter: May 14 in 2026 and May 6 in 2027.
- Sweden’s listing gives November 8 for 2026 and November 14 for 2027.
If you are sending a gift abroad, start with the date your dad actually celebrates. Your phone’s holiday calendar may be set to your own country, and a family can keep a tradition from somewhere else.
Father’s Day dates for 2026 and 2027
Checked October 15, 2026, against Time and Date’s listing for each country, linked in each row. By then, every 2026 date had passed except Sweden’s on November 8.
| Country and calendar source | 2026 date | 2027 date |
|---|---|---|
| United States | Sunday, June 21 | Sunday, June 20 |
| United Kingdom | Sunday, June 21 | Sunday, June 20 |
| Canada | Sunday, June 21 | Sunday, June 20 |
| Australia | Sunday, September 6 | Sunday, September 5 |
| New Zealand | Sunday, September 6 | Sunday, September 5 |
| Italy | Thursday, March 19 | Friday, March 19 |
| Germany | Thursday, May 14 | Thursday, May 6 |
| Sweden | Sunday, November 8 | Sunday, November 14 |
Check the year column as well as the country. June 21 was correct for the US, UK and Canada in 2026; copying that number into a 2027 reminder would put it a day late.
Which dates move, and which stay the same?
The US, UK and Canada follow the third Sunday in June. “Third Sunday” fixes the weekday, not the day number, so in 2027 it falls on June 20.
Australia and New Zealand follow the first Sunday in September, according to their country calendars linked above. For 2027 that is September 5. An annual reminder for September 6 would keep the 2026 date and miss the Sunday.
Italy’s calendar lists March 19 in both years, with the weekday changing. Germany’s Father’s Day coincides with Ascension Day, as explained in Time and Date’s Ascension Day reference. That date moves with the Easter calendar, so do not carry May 14 from 2026 into 2027. Sweden’s listing gives November 8 for 2026 and November 14 for 2027.
For a reminder, either enter the exact dated event for the year you need or use the correct recurring rule where your calendar supports it. Check the next occurrence after saving. A reminder that silently repeats on the same numbered date can look right now and be wrong next year.
Which country’s date should you use?
If your family spans countries, ask: “Are we doing Father’s Day in June or September?” You can ask without revealing the gift. The useful answer is the day he expects a call, visit or celebration, even if it differs from the calendar where you live.
For example, if you live in the UK and your father lives in Australia, the table gives two possible dates. Agree on the one you will mark, then put the year and country into your reminder. If relatives are contributing to one present, share that same date with everyone before anyone orders.
You can also separate the celebration from handing over the gift. If you will see each other another weekend, agree whether to give it then and call on Father’s Day itself. Two national dates don’t mean two presents.
Turn the date into a workable gift plan
Once the date is settled, note where the gift needs to arrive and when it needs to be in your hands. Check the seller’s preparation time and the delivery options to that address. A dispatch estimate isn’t an arrival date.
If you’re choosing a bracelet, leave time to work out his size and check he’d like the style. Our Father’s Day gift guide helps with the choice itself.
