A bracelet for a November men’s health fundraiser

You don't need to buy anything special to wear a bracelet for a November fundraiser. Pick one you already own, decide which organization you're supporting and keep its donation link handy. If someone asks about the band, you can tell them why you're wearing it. Wearing it and donating are two separate choices.

Give the bracelet a clear meaning

Choose the cause before the color. If you're joining a workplace fundraiser, check the organizer's own instructions: there may be an agreed color, message or donation page. For an informal effort with friends, a plain band and a short explanation may be enough.

Something like “I'm wearing this for our November fundraiser, and this is who we're supporting” is plenty. You don't have to explain it to everyone who notices your wrist, and you can support a cause without sharing a private health or family story.

Colors aren't a reliable way to identify another person's cause. Our awareness bracelet guide explains how the same color can belong to different campaigns.

If a bracelet purchase includes a donation

Read what the listing says about that exact bracelet: which organization gets the money, how much and which purchases count. “A share of profits” and a fixed amount per bracelet are very different things. If no amount is given, you simply don't know it.

Check the organization's own website to see whether it mentions the campaign, or ask it directly. A charity's logo on a product page doesn't prove the two are working together. If you can't find out who gets the money, skip the bracelet and donate straight through the organization instead.

Wear it when it suits the day

Take the bracelet off wherever work, sport or equipment rules don't allow jewelry. Your support still counts on the days you don't wear it.

Pick one that's comfortable with your usual clothes and tasks. Before you wear it in the shower, while washing up or at the gym, check the care instructions for the whole bracelet. A cord band can have a finish, leather ends or fittings that need different care from the cord.

When November ends, keep wearing it, put it away or save it for the next event. Either way, the bracelet is a reminder and a sign of support, not a treatment or a check-up.
